1. Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal took over as the GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command on 01 Sep 2019.
2. The General Officer was commissioned in Gorkha Rifles in June 1981.
3. The General Officer did his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, Kolkata and is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He has done his M Phil (Defence and Strategic Studies) from Madras University. He is an alumnus of the prestigious NDC, New Delhi.
4. He commanded his battalion on the Line of Control, a brigade in the North East in Counter Insurgency environment, an Infantry Division in J&K, was GOC Spear Corps in Dimapur and has held the prestigious appointment of Director General Military Operations prior to assuming the appointment of GOC-in-C, Eastern Command.
5. The General Officer has had varied instructional and staff exposures which includes Instructor Class ‘C’ in IMTRAT, Bhutan, Director Faculty of Studies in Infantry School Mhow, GSO-1 (Ops), UNMO, in PP Dte, DDG Veterans in AG’s Br, COS HQ Chinar Corps and DG DC & W in Army HQs.
6. The General Officer is a recipient of Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card, Vice Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (NC) Commendation Card.
7. Academically inclined, the General Officer has authored a book titled ‘Aftermath of A Nuclear Attack’ which was published in 2010. He has also authored the History of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre while commanding the Regimental Centre. The General Officer also compiled the history of the Dagger Division which has been published as ‘Sagacious Sentinels’ in 2017. He in an avid reader of military history with a special interest in Tibet.
8. The General Officer is married to Mrs Anupama. Mrs Anupama is a post graduate and has done B.Ed. She is a fashion designer and a painter. She has taught and popularised Fabric Painting.
