Who is LtGen Iqroop Singh Ghuman

Lieutenant General Iqroop Singh Ghuman, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command was commissioned into Brigade of the Guards in Jun 1981.

An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he has done his M Sc from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, M Phil in Defence and Management Studies from Army War College, Mhow, M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence College, New Delhi. He has also attended Counter Terrorism Course at North East South Asia Centre for strategic studies in USA.

The General has held varied Command, Instructional and Staff appointments. His command assignments include Commanding Officer of an Anti-Tank Guided Missile Battalion, Commander of a Mountain Brigade in High Altitude Area under OP RAKSHAK, General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division (RAPID) and General Officer Commanding of a Strike Corps in desert sector. The General Officer has been an Instructor at Infantry School Mhow and has also been posted as Military Observer in United Nations Angola Verification Mission.   

Prior to taking over present appointment he was tenanting the prestigious appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information System & Training) at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence.

The General Officer is married to Mrs Ginny Ghuman who is an avid reader and an educationist with a post graduate degree in English.
